OrkesterEfterskolen in Holstebro in western Denmark offers foreign students between the age of 14 and 17 a year of classical music combined with ordinary school subjects.

Danish efterskole for international students.

An efterskole is a boarding school where students live for one or two years. All efterskoler are founded on three core principles:

Livsoplysning – The belief that people have more in common than we realize, fostering curiosity and a willingness to explore shared human experiences.

Folkeoplysning – The belief that everyone has the right to understand their history and cultural context.

Demokratisk dannelse – The belief that people should be educated on how to build, maintain, and participate in a strong democratic society.

Do I need to know Danish before the school starts?

No, but it might be a good idea to begin practicing Danish on Duolingo or watching some Danish films.

Where do I live?

You live at the school. We have a little village of small houses where our students live together. There are around 8 students per house, and most students live in double rooms. Each house has their own contact teacher.

What is the price of a year at OrkesterEfterskolen?

The full price is 135.500 for the schoolyear 2026/2027.

The price covers food, housing, classes, sheet music, materials used in class, school trips and a school jacket and t-shirt.

Should I have a host family?

Yes. All international students will get a nice host family here in Denmark for approx. five weekends through the year.
